Asphalt Shingle Roofing in Hawaiian Gardens

We repair and install asphalt shingle roofs the way we'd want our own done: old layers stripped, the deck checked, flashing and nailing done right. It starts with a free roof inspection, and we'll tell you plainly whether your shingles need a repair or a new roof.

A good shingle roof is more than the shingles

Asphalt shingles cover a lot of the homes we work on, and for good reason. They cost less than tile, come in plenty of colors, and a well-installed roof sheds rain for decades. How long yours actually lasts depends mostly on things you never see: the underlayment, the drip edge, the flashing at walls and vents, attic airflow, and where each nail lands.

Most shingle failures we find trace back to one of those hidden details, not the shingle itself. We're a licensed roofing contractor, CSLB 1092407 (C-39), and we're insured, so the work on your home is covered and built to California code.

Strong Southern California sun wears granules off the south and west slopes first, and the asphalt underneath dries out and cracks. A look now tells you where your roof stands before the winter rain finds the weak spots.

What our shingle work includes

Shingle repairs

We replace cracked, lifted or missing shingles, reseal tabs that wind has loosened, and match color and profile as closely as the market allows. Good shingles around the damage stay put.

Full tear-off and reroof

We strip the old roof down to the wood instead of layering over it. That lets us find and replace soft or rotted decking before anything new goes on.

Underlayment and drip edge

New synthetic underlayment goes over the whole deck, with self-adhering membrane in valleys and around pipes. Metal drip edge at the eaves and rakes keeps water from wicking under the first row.

Flashing, pipe boots and vents

We replace step and counter flashing where the roof meets a wall, swap cracked pipe boots, and check attic ventilation. A hot, stuffy attic cooks shingles from underneath.

Permit and city inspection

We pull the reroof permit and meet the inspector. California's energy rules can call for a cool-rated shingle on some reroofs, and we sort that out before you choose a color.

Cleanup you can walk barefoot on

Tarps cover plants and walkways, and scraps drop straight into the bin. Before we leave each evening, we roll a nail-pickup sweeper across the lawn and drive so no loose fasteners end up in a tire or a foot.

Signs your shingle roof needs attention

  • Granules in the gutters

Coarse, sand-like grit at the downspouts means the protective layer is wearing off. Once the asphalt is exposed, it ages fast.

  • Curling or cupped edges

Shingles that turn up at the corners or sag in the middle have dried out. They catch wind and let rain blow underneath.

  • Missing or creased tabs after wind

A strong blow can lift a tab and crease it without tearing it off. From the ground it looks fine, but the seal is broken and the next storm can strip it.

  • Stains on a ceiling or in the attic

Brown rings, damp insulation or daylight through the boards point to a leak that has been working for a while. Our roof leak repair page covers how we trace them.

  • Dark streaks

These are usually algae and mostly cosmetic. We'll tell you honestly if that's all it is, so you don't pay for work you don't need.

  • A roof past its second decade

Many shingle roofs start showing their age around 20 years. A free inspection gives you time to plan instead of reacting to a leak.

How a shingle job runs, start to finish

  1. 1

    Free inspection

We get up on the roof, check the attic from inside if there's access, and photograph every problem spot. Then we sit down with you and explain it in plain words, in English or Spanish.

  2. 2

    Free written estimate

You get a line-by-line estimate showing repair or replacement, materials and any deck work we expect. If there's a storm claim, we work directly with your insurance adjuster.

  3. 3

    Prep before tear-off

We let you know when the crew and bin will arrive, cover plants and AC units, and protect the driveway. You'll know where we'll park before the day starts.

  4. 4

    Tear-off and install

Old shingles come off one section at a time so your home is never left open overnight. Decking, underlayment, flashing and shingles go on in order, and the yard is cleaned every evening.

  5. 5

    Final walk-through

After the city inspection, we walk the finished roof with you and show you the photos. Any question you have gets answered before we call the job done.

What moves the price of a shingle roof

Every shingle roof is priced from what we measure and see on your home, not a guess over the phone. Your written estimate spells out each item so you know what you're paying for. These are the things that make the biggest difference.

Roof area and steepness
The price follows the square footage we measure, since a bigger roof takes more bundles and more hours on the deck. A steep slope slows the crew down and calls for harnesses and roof jacks.
Old layers to strip
Some homes have two or three roofs stacked on top of each other. Each extra layer adds tear-off time and another load to the dump.
Condition of the deck
Soft or rotted plywood has to be replaced before new shingles go on. We show you photos of any bad wood before we charge for it.
Shingle line and color
Architectural shingles cost more than basic three-tab but hold up better. A cool-rated product, if code calls for one, can shift the price too.
Chimneys, skylights and vents
Each pipe, vent, chimney or skylight is a place water can sneak in, so every one gets flashed by hand. A roof with lots of them simply takes longer to finish than a plain one.

Questions about asphalt shingle roofs

Something not covered here? (562) 614-1250

Should I repair my shingles or replace the whole roof?

If the damage is limited and the rest of the roof still has life, a repair makes sense and we'll say so. When shingles are brittle across most slopes or leaks keep returning, patching gets expensive. We show you photos and give you both options so you can decide.

How long do asphalt shingles last?

Often somewhere around 20 to 30 years, depending on the product, attic ventilation and how much direct sun the roof takes. Architectural shingles generally outlast three-tab. Good installation matters as much as the shingle you pick.

Can you put new shingles over my old ones?

We prefer a full tear-off. Laying over old shingles hides the deck, traps heat and adds weight, and it can shorten the life of the new roof. Stripping it lets us fix problems we would otherwise never see.

Will you help with an insurance claim for wind damage?

Yes. We work directly with your insurance adjuster, document the damage with photos and meet them on your roof if you'd like. The adjuster decides coverage, but we make sure the damage on your roof is clearly shown. Our storm damage repair page has more on this.
